Starting anew, from right where I used to be

hello
Hello! Welcome to my new website! Thanks to my long-time online partner Dan Wilkinson for doing his typically awesome job building it for me.

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season. My wife Catherine (“Cat”) and I did.

We also had a fairly weird holiday season. I was extremely busy running the Kickstarter campaign for my novel, for one. And we’re living in this little one-bedroom apartment, experiencing (thrillingly!) cold weather the likes of which neither of us has ever known . . . the whole season was just distinctly odd for us. And no less awesome for it.

Luckily my Kickstarter campaign funded—and late on New Year’s Eve, at that. Talk about a reason to bust out ye olde bubbly.

I want to again thank everyone who contributed to the success of that campaign. What I Did To You, and the new novel on which I’ve already been working for months, mean everything to me. And you made them possible.

Speaking of new work, check out Ashes to Asheville, my other new novel, which I’m serializing online: Beginning henceforth and anon, I shall be publishing a new installment of it, right here, every Thursday morning. It’s about Tammy, a 45-year-old mother of two grown children whose life, one morning, goes up in smoke. She is down, most certainly—but not quite out. (If you find that you like Ashes to Asheville, please help me with it by sharing it, commenting on it, etc. For reasons I can’t yet share with you—but that have everything to do with my Making It As A Novelist—it’s vitally important that you do that. Thank you!)

In other news, you may have noticed that I’m now going by the name N. John Shore, Jr. About that: My full name is Norman John Shore, Jr. When, at the outset of my writing career, I published fifteen short stories in as many little literary magazines, I did so under the name N. John Shore, Jr.:

After fifteen years of making my living as a magazine journalist, editor, ghostwriter and book author, I’ve (finally!) returned to my first love, which is writing fiction. Thus have I also returned to publishing under the name I have always reserved for my fiction. (These days I especially appreciate that version of my name for its nod to my father, who passed away in January 2013. He was always Norm—or, more formally, Norman J. Shore. I was John—or N. John Shore, Jr.)

Finally: If you’re interested in hiring me an editor, ghostwriter, or writing coach, see here, and/or contact me directly.

Onward; upward; hopefully not too often sideways; never backwards if it can be helped, etc.

Here, my friends, is to a good story, well told.
